Alright, first field report in a while but here goes.
Last night, I got to Black Bear in New Haven about 10:45, about 15 minutes before everyone got down there. Was pretty peacocked out with one of my Roar shirts that had some stones and rivets on it. But was having some definite AA.
Finally, Jackson, Anton, Matt and Chili got there and the guys started working a few sets. I started winging, just trying to help DHV anyone who I was with. At one point, Jackson tried the "Do we look gay" opener which can be a really good one but doesn't exactly work when you are using it with a wing who has his hair in a fauxhawk, black nail polish and a shirt that sparkles LOL.
After a few, we decided to head to Nikkita which had some decent sets inside. Jackson and I opened a 3 set at the start right near the entrance but we failed to bring in the 5th wheel and lost the set. As we moved to the back, Jackson opened a two set who turned out to be girls I had known for about 7 years. When he realized I knew them, he ejected. I caught up with the girls, got a few kisses on the cheek as they were leaving for social proof and we were heading outside when I got stopped by another girl I was friends with. Small talk with her real quick, made sure her BF knew I wasn't a threat, and headed out to see the guys in another set of two girls smoking. Made sure to help DHV the guys subtley before we split off and Jackson, Anton and myself went to Playwright.
At Playwright, the front room was kind of empty so we headed to the back room. At the bar, I ordered a drink with Anton next to me. The bar was packed and I saw three girls looking to move in for a drink. Finally, I balled up enough to open and asked the girls if they needed to get a spot at the bar. They said they did so I traded places with them. As we crossed paths, I noticed one of the girls had a very fancy broachlike thingy on her shirt so I told her it was a great shirt... but too bad it had a spot on it. She looked down and I ran my finger up quick to her nose (Thanks you VegasAce for that trick). I subtley negged her, saying I can't believe she fell for it... but smiled the whole time so she knew I wasn't being mean. I told her we had to get going but I was sure I'd see her later. Got a pinky lock with her and moved on. At this point, Jackson and I started talking about different non-opinion based openers like the Word Game and "Have you met (insert wing's name here)" {a la, How I Met Your Mother} We didn't end up hooking anything and decided to bounce.
From there we went to Barcelona, Anton and Jackson quickly got in to a two set so I ran over to Black Bear to meet up with Sergey and his friend. We headed down the street to a lounge just past Gotham that Jackson wanted to show us which has a very cool, very chill vibe and would be an awesome spot to bounce a set to. From there, we went to Bar.
At the bar at Bar, I was able to work an open with another girl doing the same stain on her shirt opener, got smiles all around but wasn't able to hook. Jackson asked me for a word for the Word Game and I gave him "Pumkin". He used it and opened a 4 and a 1/2 set. I wouldn't call it a full 5 set since some of the girls in it were only half involved with their friends or really drunk. I gave him a few min to work the set before I came in and winged for him. We each kind of picked our targets and worked on them. I ended up picking this HB, 8.5 Blonde who is moving to Rome in two weeks and instantly found my hook point, telling her about all the things I saw in Rome when I was there a year and a half ago. I tried to bring in the friends in to the conversation as well which ended up being a challenge since one was pretty drunk and the other was kind of depressing. The girls decided they wanted to go dancing and my target asked if I'd be around later (I knew full well I wouldn't as it was 10 minutes from last call), so I ended up number closing her. By then, everyone else had made it to Bar and the lights came on.
We went across the street to Louis' Lunch which can either be target rich or target empty, depending on the night. There was a two set, a 6.5 and a 7, but I tried to open them, asking them to take a picture of our group as we were celebrating me surviving the massive layoff that happened at my job yesterday. I tried to hook her but she was just not in the mood to be gamed. We finished our burgers and parted ways.
All in all, it was a good night. I still need to improve my AA but it was heads and shoulders above where I was with it the weekend after Christmas.
